Á¦¸ñ A STUDIES ON LEPROMIN REACTION IN DIFFERENT TYPES OF LEPROSY PATIENTS.

¿ä¾à 512 leprosy patients treated at the Institute for Leprosy Research, Korean Leprosy
Control Association were carried out lepromin test (Mitsuda test) and the following
results were obtained.
1. According to type, lepromin reaction was negative in 80.8% of LL, 54.8% of BL
60% of BB patients and it was positive in 91.4% of BT and 96.2% of TT patients, and
of them strong positive was shown in 28.7% of BT and 56.6% of TT patients.
2. According to BI, lepromin reaction was negative in 80% of skin smears positive
cases and 40% of skin smears negative cases in multibacillary type of cases, and it was
positive in 76.5% of skin smears positive cases and 95.4% of skin smears negative cases
in paucibacillary type of cases.
3. According to the duration of treatment, 20% of lepromin negative cases converted
to lepromin positive after 1-5 years of treatment and there is a tendency that lepromin
positivity grade was increasing by passing the time of treatment in MB and PB cases.
4. According to repeated lepromin test with 3-12 months intervals in a same patients,
lepromin negative was shown in 75.0% at first test, 52.8% at second test, 73.3% at third
test and 66.7% at forth test in multibacillary cases, and lepromin test was positive in
76.2% at first test. 85.7% at second test, 80% at third test and 100% at forth test in
paucibacillary cases.
5. Among the patients treated immunotherapy with heat-killed M. leprae and BCG
given eight times with 2 months intervals, 50% of eight lepromin negative multibacillary
leprosy patients has shown lepromin positive even after one year.
